QoS Support for Mobile Users Using NSIS

چکیده
Resource reservations in the Internet become more and more important with the advent of real-time multimedia services like Voiceover-IP and IPTV. At the same time we see an increasing interest in accessing Internet services by using mobile devices. In this paper we describe how Quality-of-Service guarantees can be achieved in mobile environments across different domains using the Next Steps in Signaling (NSIS) framework. We provide an analysis of mobility scenarios in combination with QoS signaling and propose to use an additional node local Flow Information Service element that supplies the necessary mobility support within NSIS capable mobility-aware nodes. We show that reservations can be setup quickly along the new path after a handover happened. Even the tear down of the reservation of the old path after a successful handover is performed quickly.

QoS NSIS Signaling Layer Protocol for Mobility Support with a Cross-Layer Approach
Providing seamless QoS guarantees for multimedia services is one of the most critical requirements in the mobile Internet. However, the effects of host mobility make it difficult to provide such services. The next steps in signaling (NSIS) was proposed by the IETF as a new signaling protocol, but it fails to address some mobility issues. This paper proposes a new QoS NSIS signaling layer protoc...
متن کاملNSIS Signaling Layer Protocol (NSLP) for Quality-of-Service Signaling
This specification describes the NSIS Signaling Layer Protocol (NSLP) for signaling Quality of Service (QoS) reservations in the Internet. It is in accordance with the framework and requirements developed in NSIS. Together with General Internet Signaling Transport (GIST), it provides functionality similar to RSVP and extends it. The QoS NSLP is independent of the underlying QoS specification or...

متن کاملScalable Quantitative Delay Guarantee Support in DiffServ Networks Through NSIS
This paper investigates the issue of enabling scalable quantitative delay guarantee support in DiffServ networks through NSIS. A NSIS QoS Model is utilized to add the admission control framework to the DiffServ architecture and reservation-based admission control algorithms are designed for ingress and interior nodes respectively for enabling quantitative delay guarantees in a DiffServ domain. ...
متن کاملSevere congestion handling approaches in NSIS RMD domains with bi-directional reservations
Real time applications usually impose strict QoS requirements on communication networks. Several QoS frameworks have been developed and standardized to satisfy these QoS requirements. Among them is the NSIS QoS framework that is currently being standardized by the NSIS (Next Steps In Signaling) working group within IETF. Each communication node or a domain on the path that supports the NSIS QoS...
